THE CLEAN TEAM

Volunteers from Crowne Plaza Doha and Holiday Inn Doha – The Business Park cleared 150kg of waste in their annual initiative.

Hotel staff members joined hands with Doha Environmental Action Projects (DEAP) for a clean-up at Sealine Beach which saw volunteers from the two hotels helping remove bags full of harmful waste from the area.

As part of their commitment to give back to the community, the hotels organise a volunteering activity every year. In past years, they have participated in clean-ups around various areas of the country in partnership with DEAP to contribute to environmental sustainability activities in Qatar. This year, the clean-up was conducted at Sealine Beach which, as a popular desert trip destination among travellers and Qatar residents, often sees disposable waste left behind, putting the natural habitat and wildlife in jeopardy.

Doha Environmental Action Projects (DEAP) is a volunteerbased organisation heading up the beach and desert cleanup movement in Qatar. Founded in May 2017, its main purpose is to restore and preserve the natural beauty of the country’s landscapes by conducting clean-ups, and to raise public awareness of the negative impact and environmental damage of plastic pollution.

“It is a great pleasure to be joining hands with DEAP once again this year to show our support in keeping Qatar clean. As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, we are committed in advocating causes and initiatives that create a positive impact in the community.

From this year onwards, we will be focusing on carrying out more CSR activities and participating in more intiatives in line with IHG’s ‘Journey to Tomorrow’,” said Gilles Nicolas, General Manager of Crowne Plaza Doha and Holiday Inn Doha – The Business Park. IHG Hotels & Resorts, parent company of the two hotels, has recently launched Journey to Tomorrow, a decade-long action plan comprising a series of new commitments to make a positive difference in communities around the world.

Talking about the campaign, IHG’s CEO Keith Barr said: “Journey to Tomorrow embodies IHG’s strengthened commitment to make sure we do what’s right, not just what’s needed. We want every IHG stakeholder to see that we’re on a journey to be successful in every sense of the word, and we are determined to contribute towards positive social and economic change, to stand up for key issues such as diversity, equity and inclusion, and human rights, and to make more responsible environmental choices.” ✤
