SUPERFRUIT SUSTAINABILITY

Brazilian and Arabic Açaí partnership plants 1,500 trees in the Amazon.

In an important collaborative initiative to help mitigate climate change through the reforestation of deforested areas, Tropicool Açaí and Superfruits, of which Qatar’s own Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani is co-owner, has replanted 1,500 seedlings of native Amazonian and fruit trees in Mâncio Lima, Brazil. The replanting of these 1,500 seedlings sprouted from a partnership between the company and SOS Amazônia, entitled ‘Faça Florescer Floresta’ (loosely translated as ‘Make It Bloom Forest’.)

The efforts ensure the restoration of 15 thousand square miles of the Amazon. An agreement made with families of the region includes the purchase of seedlings and preparation of the agroforestry systems method. This is just the first step of a project that will recur regularly. In the partnership, Tropicool Açaí and Superfruits will plant a tree for every 10 litres of açaí sold in the world.

Present at the initial planting, Sheikh Mohammed, a member of the Qatari royal family, clarified the importance of the initiative saying: “Our promise is to return to the Amazon what it offers us as raw material, and which we work to take to the whole world.” Açaí berries are known as the most delicious member of the superfood pyramid. The Amazonian Forest areas are the main source of raw material for açaí bowls, ice cream and juices.

Tropicool Açaí and Superfruits produces product via aseptic technology, making it possible to preserve the flavour and natural characteristics for up to 15 months without freezing the fruit. Properly packaged, the product can be transported over long distances, making it possible to share these super bowls with more than 50 locations across the GCC, Brazil and Mexico. ✤
