Sony have announced the new PS5 variant with an updated form that provides greater choice and flexibility.

Addressing the evolving needs of players, the updated version features the PlayStation 5 console packed into a smaller form, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage.

The new console has been reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the two previous models (with and without hard disc drive).

There are four separate cover panels, with the top portion in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in matte like its predecessor. Those that purchase the slimmer, cheaper digital edition can add the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive at a later date when they choose to, as it’s sold separately.

A horizontal stand is included with the standard model but a new vertical option, compatible with all PlayStation 5 consoles, is also available.

A variety of console cover colours will be offered starting early 2024, including all-matte black and the Deep Earth Collection colours in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue and Sterling Silver. ✤
