Float away from it all at the award-winning spa Bioskinspa where Kay Woodward spent a morning being alternately wowed and relaxed.

The moment I arrived at Bioskinspa, I knew it was going to be fabulous. But – spoiler alert – I didn’t know quite how out-of-this-world fabulous it was going to be.

The first clue was the spa entrance. The towering bamboo amid trickling water and the wall of teal and purple flowers heralded a gateway to another world. The traffic noise faded behind me as I walked away from frantic city life and into an oasis of pure calm. Reception was light and airy, the staff uber welcoming. Within minutes, I was sipping a glass of refreshing detox water, infused with grapefruit, orange and mint. I immediately relaxed.

Certified by the International Organisation for Standardisation in Qatar way back in 2005, Bioskinspa is a shining star of the Doha spa scene. The secret to its success is undoubtedly its fusion of Swiss and Italian products and technologically advanced machines. PR Manager Khouloud explained why clients won’t receive the same incredible treatments anywhere else in Doha – both the wide range of Biosphere Swiss Cosmetics and ORA products and futuristic technology are exclusive to Bioskinspa. Its talented, knowledgeable and friendly therapists are the icing on the cake. No wonder clients go back time and time again for their bespoke courses of treatment.

My trio of treats began with the Glass Skin Facial with Mylene. As the name implies, this was anything but an everyday facial, but I could never have foreseen the magic that was about to take place. Imagine, if you will, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody – a masterpiece comprised of wildly different musical styles that surprise and delight at every turn. The Glass Skin Facial is the facial equivalent. Mylene cleansed, exfoliated and then proceeded to treat my skin to a succession of luxurious products, while applying truly remarkable rollers that smoothed, invigorated, warmed and cooled my skin until it glowed. Wow!

My mood sky high, we headed in that direction, whizzing upstairs. Bioskinspa is way bigger than I’d imagined. There’s a special VIP section too. But after experiencing just one of the glorious treatments on offer and seeing so many clients coming and going, it’s clear to see why they need the space.

On the next floor, Rosemary awaited, along with the realisation that the surprises weren’t over yet. O2 Hair Therapy is something else. Designed to promote growth and stop hair loss, my scalp was treated to blasts of oxygen. That’s the technical description, of course. What the treatment actually felt like was funnels of chilled air. O2 Hair Therapy is a breezy Alpine walk of a treatment. It was, quite literally, cool. But, as before, this was only the first step. Firm, experienced fingers massaged my head so well that I had to remind myself to stay awake. An unctuous mixture of ORA hair mask and oil coated the ends of my hair. Then followed a neck and shoulder massage of champions.

Here, I have to pause and pay homage to truly the king of hairwashing chairs. It whirred into motion, lifted me until I was horizontal and then continued to massage me gently while my hair was shampooed. It’s quite possibly the best hair wash I’ve ever had and shows how Bioskinspa’s machines are designed to make everything better.

Finally, it was time for my Aromatic Massage with Melanie, who expertly smoothed away knots and banished tension. I’d love to spend more time describing it, but the truth is that it was so first-rate, I somewhat drifted off. I would happily go every week just to experience the sense of utter calm and relaxation I felt afterwards. Though I’m rather tempted by the exceedingly popular Slimming Massage too.

I floated out of Bioskinspa on a cloud of head-to-toe happiness and two days later, I’m still experiencing a postsalon glow. My complexion is clear and bright, my hair soft and revitalised. I feel fabulous.

There are two branches of Bioskinspa in Doha. I visited the Duhail branch, which is close to the Duhail flyover and therefore incredibly easy to reach from pretty much anywhere in the city. But if that’s too far, don’t worry, because there’s a branch nestled in Salata too. No matter where you live, you’re just minutes away from an experience that you will never forget. ✤
