Timeless Elegance

Rolls-Royce has unveiled its highly exclusive Scintilla Private Collection.

The marque recently unveiled the new offering as a grand tribute to the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

This exclusive collection, limited to just 10 examples worldwide, embodies the ethereal beauty and enduring elegance of the Spirit of Ecstasy, a symbol of luxury and sophistication that has defined the Rolls-Royce brand for over a century.

The Phantom Scintilla derives its name from the Latin word for ‘spark’ reflecting the fleeting yet profound impression the Spirit of Ecstasy imparts. This Private Collection is more than just a vehicle; it is a masterful piece of art that encapsulates the grace, dynamism and otherworldly allure of the Spirit. Its design and craftsmanship draw heavily from the historical inspiration behind the mascot – the Greek marble statue, The Winged Victory of Samothrace – which captured Rolls-Royce Managing Director Claude Johnson’s imagination over a century ago.

In Phantom Scintilla, Rolls-Royce reclaims some of his original vision by integrating subtle references to The Winged Victory, blending historical inspiration with modern craftsmanship.

Phantom Scintilla’s exterior is presented in a striking two-tone bespoke finish. The upper body is painted in Andalusian White, while the lower section is adorned in Thracian Blue, evoking the hues of the sea surrounding Samothrace. The delicate metallic flake in the paint mimics the sparkle of sunlight on water, complemented by a hand-painted coachline and wheel pinstripes in Spirit Blue, enhancing its elegant exterior.

Inside, the Phantom Scintilla showcases unparalleled artistry and craftsmanship. The interior design incorporates an intricate embroidery motif that mimics the dynamic flow of the Spirit of Ecstasy’s robes. This feature involves a staggering 869,500 stitches and took over 40 hours to complete, setting a new benchmark for interior complexity in a Rolls-Royce. The embroidery uses a range of colours and thread types to create a seamless and flowing graphic, which appears like a watercolour painting across the cabin. The centrepiece of the model is the Celestial Pulse artwork in the gallery, spanning the full width of the front fascia. This bespoke creation consists of seven ribbons, each milled from solid aluminium and finished with a finely grained ceramic that echoes the texture of Parian marble. The artwork captures light and movement, enhancing the car’s aura of elegance and sophistication.

Additionally, a unique Starlight Headliner animates the interior with 1,500 fibre-optic ‘stars’ that twinkle in sequence, simulating the Spirit of Ecstasy’s flowing gown and adding a dynamic element to the cabin.

The attention to detail extends to the rear picnic tables, which feature a delicate graphic inspired by the Spirit’s fluidity. This graphic is applied using a masking technique, then hand-sanded and coated to create a subtle play of colours. The wood trim throughout the interior is finished in Arctic White and lacquered with iridescent metallic particles, a process that requires up to 19 coats of lacquer and more than 190 hours of work per car.

In unveiling the Phantom Scintilla, Rolls-Royce not only celebrates the legacy of the Spirit of Ecstasy but also reaffirms its commitment to crafting the most luxurious and bespoke motor cars in the world. ✤
