THE NEW JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE L

The world’s most celebrated SUV delivers a new level of performance with its latest revamp.

Jeep is celebrating 80 years of 4×4 leadership and innovation with the launch of the all-new Grand Cherokee L. This reimagining of the most awarded SUV of all time is sure to put a smile on the faces of SUV lovers and off-road enthusiasts alike. Thanks to the outstanding team at United Cars Al-Mana, FACT magazine received the opportunity to carefully inspect and test-drive this latest model, an experience we won’t soon forget.

First up, the exterior. Jeep have taken inspiration from their first full-sized luxury SUV, the original Wagoneer. Despite the 3,091mm wheelbase of this vehicle, the L’s profile is slender in nature, emphasised by its elongated hood and cab. The forward tipping grille further highlights the length of the bonnet and is complemented by a full suite of LED lighting. This lighting setup is fitted as standard on all trim levels and includes ultra slim headlamps, slim horizontal fog lamps with unique signature lighting, as well as ultra slim tail lamps. The roof has been both lowered and tapered to ensure maximum aerodynamic performance and fuel efficiency, without sacrificing any important cargo space.

Upon entering the vehicle, we were greeted by a next-generation interior, boasting opulent colours, handcrafted materials and modern amenities. We found all features in the cabin to be most impressive including the 16-way adjustable seating with lumbar support and the multifunction steering wheel that feels just right in hand. All control features have been perfectly placed for optimum performance and convenience, whilst the design and quality of the dashboard is truly outstanding.

The centre stack has been realigned to ensure accessibility for the driver, with an illuminated element framing the 10.1-inch display for the Unconnect 5 system. Additionally, a 10.25-inch frameless digital gauge cluster has also been included in the setup, allowing the user easy access to driver-assist technologies and other vehicle information. Despite this system including nearly two dozen different menus, we found it easy to navigate, intuitive and most informative. The system has a fully customisable home screen and is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Grand Cherokee L is the first three-row vehicle produced by Jeep. This spacious SUV is a genuine seven-seater, able to comfortably fit up to seven adults. The second-row door openings are larger than previous models, with the doors themselves able to open to 64-degrees. An ingress/egress exterior side step has also been fitted for your convenience. The third row features a 50/50 split and can be folded via an electronic remote release in the rear cargo area. The volume of the boot is 1,328 litres, which can be increased up to 2,396 litres with all seating folded flat.

Although both the exterior and interior design of the L are impressive, its performance capabilities are what truly set this car apart from the rest of the pack. Upon first inspection one may think this SUV is a little on the large side, a factor that could affect performance. This, however, could not be further from the truth. This all-new model is equipped with the all-aluminium, 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine. With 293 horsepower and 353Nm of torque, this engine produces more than enough power for all terrain, whilst continuously aiding fuel consumption. The powertrain combined with a class-exclusive Quadra-Lift Air Suspension, a highly effective braking system and advanced traction control, ensures this model is an absolute joy to drive and we always felt in complete control of the experience.

Upon venturing off-road, we found the Grand Cherokee L’s class-leading Selec-Terrain traction management system to be extremely useful, allowing us to smoothly switch between five terrain modes including Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow and Mud/ Sand. No matter the terrain, the L made short work of any and all geographical challenges we put in its way.

Jeep have incorporated more than 110 safety and security features in the all-new L. These include innovative applications of technologies that refine the connection between the driver, the vehicle and the road. These features include Full-Speed Collision Warning, Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist, Night Vision Camera, Rear Cross Path detection, Active Lane Management, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning, Advanced Brake Assist, Blind-spot Monitoring, ParkSense rear park assist sensors, tyrepressure monitoring, a Drowsy Driver Detection system as well as Traffic Sign Recognition amongst many others.

So, what else can we say? If you are looking to purchase a superior 4×4 seven-seater SUV that not only looks great and drives well, but keeps you and your loved ones safe, you should definitely give this a try. ✤
