The Meydan Hotel Lights Up in Honour of UAE’s Mission to Mars

#ArabsToMars

The Meydan Hotel, Dubai’s most discerning 5-star hotel will be lighting up its iconic wave form in red, from the 4th to 9th February 2021 in support to the Hope Probe reaching Mars’ orbit on the 9th of February 2021.

The colossal milestone is set to make the UAE just the fifth nation to reach the red planet – following the United States, the former Soviet Union, India, and the European Space Agency. To commemorate this major achievement in space travel for the region, The Meydan Hotel will be proudly lighting up its wave façade in red counting down to the rover reaching Mars’ surface and showing their national spirit.

Shaped in the form of a wave in motion and seamlessly blending straight lines with flowing curves, the 1.8km long all-glass façade of the hotel will be illuminated from 6 PM till 12 AM in support of this historic occasion for the UAE and the Arab world.

“We are very honoured to be a part of the nationwide ‘UAE in Red’ campaign and are thrilled to commemorate the Hope Probe landing by lighting up The Meydan Hotel exteriors in red. This is not only a landmark occasion for the UAE, but for the region as a whole. We hope that the people of the UAE join us in showing their support as the country counts down to the 9th of February,” says Mohamed Shawky, Hotel Manager at The Meydan Hotel.

If landed successfully, the Hope Probe will be the first mission to send back complete imagery of the planet’s atmosphere and answer lifelong questions that the space community has had for years about the planet’s atmosphere, climate and weather. The mission is part of a commitment that the UAE has undertaken to become a hub for space education and awareness for the region.
