Alongstanding icon of refined leisure, The Diplomatic Club continues to set the benchmark for excellence in the world of private clubs. Far from simply maintaining its reputation, it elevates the standard with an array of exceptional offerings, including various eateries, access to both pool and beach, a recently renovated spa, water sports and even a kids’ club for the little ones.

Blending tradition with modernity, the design captures the essence of Qatari heritage while embracing contemporary principles of recreational planning. Inspired by the historic palaces of the region – renowned for their multiple courtyards – the architectural style of the club reflects a deep respect for the past. Elegant arcades and majestic entrances echo the timeless beauty of traditional Qatari design, while the interior showcases an intricate tapestry of local carvings, celebrating the nation’s artistic richness. The result? A harmonious and unified structure where art and architecture converge.

Where Poolside Comfort Meets Coastal Charm

With soaring temperatures for most of the year, it’s no surprise that Qatar boasts an abundance of beach and pool offerings available all year round. But for those seeking an exclusive seaside experience that is far removed from the crowds, The Diplomatic Club is in a league of its own. With direct access to pristine shores, guests can indulge in the luxury of dedicated sun loungers, umbrellas, plush towels and impeccable food and beverage service – crafted to satisfy every sun-seeker’s desire. A lifeguard is on hand throughout the day to ensure safety for all pool visitors.

While basking in the sun, I indulged in a perfectly crafted cappuccino and a refreshing mojito mocktail from Al Borj, the club’s iconic poolside restaurant. Al Borj impresses with an extensive all-day menu, offering everything from a hearty English breakfast to crisp, refreshing salads and a variety of gourmet sandwiches. For younger guests, a thoughtfully curated selection of kids’ meals ensures everyone is well catered to – making it an ideal spot for leisurely, sun-soaked dining.

Premium Water Sports Experiences

The premium water sports offering is what truly sets The Diplomatic Club apart. Golden sunshine glistening over the bay and calm, inviting waters, make for an experience that blends adrenaline with awe-inspiring views. As I sped across the surface of West Bay lagoon on a Jet Ski, I was treated to a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of Doha’s ever-evolving skyline – an exhilarating ride with a landscape like no other.

From carving waves on a wakeboard to bouncing along on a banana boat or trying a hand at paddleboarding, there’s no shortage of thrilling aquatic adventures to be had. The calm, sheltered waters of the club’s private beach create an ideal environment for both seasoned thrill-seekers and first-time adventurers. Being a first-time Jet Skier, I marvelled at how expertly the instructors were able to ensure a safe, seamless and adrenaline-filled experience. With premium equipment – from high-performance boards and boots to top-tier safety gear – every detail is thoughtfully considered for maximum enjoyment.

Rejuvenate and Revive

Of course, no daycation feels truly complete without a visit to the spa – at least, not for me. Renovated in 2022, the space evokes a distinctly European sense of understated luxury. You’re instantly enveloped in a cocoon of rich walnut panelling, its warm tones adding a comforting elegance to every corner, and sleek, modern spotlighting is masterfully integrated casting a soft glow. The large, circular mirrors – brilliantly lit and beautifully framed – add a contemporary edge to the space. And with modern candle holders in every room, the entire experience feels thoughtfully tailored to your individual treatment.

To ensure every guest is perfectly accommodated, the spa offers extensive facilities, including state-of-the-art workout spaces and serene treatment rooms. Thoughtfully designed for flexibility, there is also a ladies-only gym and, adding to the indulgence are a luxurious Jacuzzi and an impressive plunge bath – very much the wellness trend of the moment.

Now, onto a facility that truly deserves special mention: the hammam. Adorned with intricate mosaic tiling, rich geometric copper accents and smooth marble slabs, the space exudes an old-world charm that instantly transports you to the heart of Morocco.

After a morning in the pool and making waves on the West Bay waterfront, I was in desperate need of a cleansing hammam treatment. And, from the moment I lay on the warmed slab, I could feel my skin thanking me. A blend of ingredients rich in essential vitamins and minerals was applied, feeding my skin with an instant glow, while the exfoliation process was both invigorating and soothing – gently scrubbing away dead skin, unclogging pores and drawing out toxins. The head and facial massage was a special touch that elevated the experience and I was even able to take home the loofah for continued exfoliation in the comfort of my own bathroom.

Clean and rejuvenated, it was time to complete the makeover with a blowout at the salon. Thoughtfully designed spaces ensure comfort and privacy for all, with a dedicated men’s salon separate to The Beauty Center which is for women only and has a separate ladies’ room where I was able to enter with ease to accommodate my hijab. It is these considerate touches that elevate the experience and explain why the salon is always fully booked! I opted for a wavy blowout and received bouncy, voluminous locks that lasted well into the night. Be it a classic style, or something more daring, you are most certainly in expert hands.

Unconventional Dining

At 5pm, with sunset just around the corner, dinner was incredibly unconventional and an experience exclusive to The Diplomatic Club: the BBQ donut. As we set sail from the shore, a dedicated chef prepared a personalised barbecue feast, with fresh cuts of chicken and beef made to my liking, all while the sea breeze and stunning views created the perfect backdrop. The thoughtful details, like my waiter sharing interesting facts about the local shores and fish caught in the area, made the experience feel even more bespoke. Each donut also features its own sound system, adding the perfect ambience. With a selection of soft drinks, teas and coffees to enjoy, this is a one-of-a-kind way to indulge in great food, incredible views and a truly memorable time with friends or family.

From the moment you arrive at The Diplomatic Club, one thing is abundantly clear: an unwavering and palpable pride in service runs through every crevice of this exceptional venue. Every individual I had the pleasure of encountering, from the skilled water sports team to the attentive waitstaff and knowledgeable spa professionals, exuded a genuine passion for their role.
