Photographers based in Qatar have a new opportunity to develop their practice, with applications now open for the second edition of the Tasweer Residency, a five-month programme combining mentorship, studio space and financial support.
If you’ve been looking for the time and support to take a photography project further, Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar’s latest open call could be worth a look. Applications are now open for the 2026-27 Tasweer Residency, a five-month programme for photographers and visual storytellers aged 21 and over who are based in Qatar.
Hosted at Bayt Al Wakrah in the historic Old Al Wakrah City, the residency offers participants the chance to develop a long-term photographic project with guidance from industry professionals.
Documentary, conceptual and experimental approaches are all welcome, with applicants encouraged to explore themes linking people, culture, memory and the environment, whether rooted in Qatar or looking beyond its borders.
Only three residents will be selected. Each will receive a dedicated studio space, a monthly stipend of QR4,000 and ongoing mentorship, alongside production and curatorial support throughout the programme. The residency will culminate in an exhibition, As the Image Unfolds-The Language of Athar, presented during the 2027 edition of Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar, with an accompanying digital zine documenting the participants’ creative journeys. Following a well-received first edition in 2025, the residency continues Tasweer’s mission to support photographers at different stages of their careers while strengthening Qatar’s growing contemporary photography scene. Applications are open until September 3. ✤
