HE Sheikh Faleh Bin Nawwaf Al Thani, Managing Director- Auto, at Nasser Bin Khaled Group, said: “As Qatar is moving towards more environment-friendly options to save our natural resources and environment, we are pleased to support this vision and introduce the first electric Mitsubishi Vehicle in Qatar. This step complements NBK Group collaboration with relevant authorities to promote electric vehicles and provide electric charging station across Qatar”.

Mr. Hisham El-Sahn, General Manager of Qatar Automobiles Company stated: “The new Outlander PHEV is a perfect solution for those looking for an electric SUV car, thanks to its reliability and features. We welcome all customers to do a test drive of the vehicle and experience the real driving pleasure and facilities. The Outlander PHEV is the new generation’s best choice that meet all needs.”

The Outlander PHEV employs two electric motors, one at each axle and a powerful 2.4-litre Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with enhanced fuel efficiency and improved noise reduction that work together to optimise performance according to driving preferences. Working together, the twin motors and petrol engine outperform a 3.0-litre petrol engine.

PHEV Technology

PHEV is a hybrid electric vehicle equipped with a battery that can be recharged by either plugging it into an external source of electric power, or by its on-board engine and generator. Just like all-electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids discharge cleaner emissions from the tailpipe having sent power to the generators powering the electricity grid of the vehicle. Charging the battery from the grid consumes significantly less petrol than using the on-board engine, resulting in fewer CO2 emissions.

Mounted underneath the floor, the Outlander PHEV enjoys a 13.8 kWh large capacity battery achieving 55km EV range alone when fully charged. The 2.4L Atkinson-cycle engine and generator are mounted at the front of the car. The two high power motors that realise 60kw output on the front and 70kw on the rear offer strong acceleration and high maneuverability with Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) – The integrated control system, only available from Mitsubishi Motors which delivers incredible power and control, by optimally managing AYC (Active Yaw Control), ABS (Anti-lock braking system) and Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control (TCL). The system brings out the fuel potential of Twin Motor 4WD without compromising safety, comfort or fuel efficiency – ensuring excellent driving stability and intuitive, linear handling.

By synchronising the twin motors and the engine, EV, Series Hybrid and Parallel driving modes are seamlessly changed for optimised low CO2 emissions experience. The quiet, smooth and zero-emission EV mode is ideal for daily commute, the Outlander PHEV can achieve best speed of 135 km/h while utilising the electric motors only. Series Hybrid mode is activated when the battery charge is running low and/or the vehicle needs more power for acceleration, the engine operates as a generator to supply electricity to the twin motors. Parallel mode engages at high speed driving using the engine with assistance from the motors when extra power is required while simultaneously charging the battery.

The newly introduced Battery Management features provide utmost liberty to choose between Save mode, where the engine maintains battery charge level for later use. While the Charge mode will keep charging the battery, the EV Priority mode will only use the battery until charge drops to an extremely low level.

Also new to the Outlander PHEV is the Twin Motor 4WD feature which allows to select Normal, Snow and Lock modes depending on road conditions. The new separate Sport Mode switch is available for quicker response and agile maneuverability. The EV system optimally controls each of the driving modes so it provides the versatility to drive as a 100% electric vehicle, use the engine to charge the drive battery, or drive using the motors and the engine at the same time, based on driving conditions.

Charging the Outlander PHEV is as easy as driving it, while an AC 230V 10A regular charger can take up to 5.5 hours to fully charge the vehicle, a quick charger is perfect for adding mileage quickly for up to 80% capacity in under 25 minutes.

Sharp and Sophisticated Exterior

The exterior of the Outlander PHEV hints at the car’s dynamic styling while also expressing its fun-to-drive SUV spirit, creating an instant and lasting impression. The result is a distinctive outline that instils the next-generation eco-car with a unique presence. The 2020 Outlander PHEV has a 2,670 mm wheelbase, an overall length of 4,695 mm, width of 1,800 mm, and height of 1,710 mm

The front face enjoys stylish headlamps that feature auto levelling LED lighting for both high and low beams coupled with LED fog lamps. The Practically designed roof rails complement the electronically controlled sunroof with sunshade allowing to bring in sunlight and fresh air with ease. The rear spoiler has been optimised to further improve aerodynamic performance.

Advanced and Luxurious Interior

The interior has a modern and luxurious cockpit with soft padded surfaces, high quality leather seats, a lustrous dashboard and centre console and an abundant legroom.

Power lumbar support on the driver seat offers easy fore and aft seatback pressure adjustment, reducing strain to the lower back to enhance driving comfort. Together with other seat functions the optimal driving position can match the driver’s physique. The integrated overhead console neatens the view of the ceiling with incorporated cabin lamp, seat belt reminder, passenger air bag cut off indicator and Anti-theft sensor. With a dial type switch, the dual-zone auto air conditioner allows both the driver and passenger to adjust cabin temperature separately. Moreover, adjustable vents are provided in the rear console to keep rear passengers comfortable.

Loaded with Features

It is no surprise that the Outlander PHEV comes with an array of features that make it even more ahead of its time. The Informative Power Meter indicates energy usage, regenerative power, engine power (kW), EV output and more. Special PHEV Display Functions are embedded into the Multi-Information Display to show various PHEV functions including driving range indicator, EV Drive ratio indicator and energy flow indicator.

The Keyless operation system facilitates locking and unlocking all doors and tailgate with a press of a button on the outside of the front doors or tailgate. Starting the vehicle has never been easier, thanks to the push start button. The electric tailgate can be opened and closed automatically from a switch located near the driver’s seat or through the Mitsubishi Remote Control App.

While the Electric Parking Brake which is placed at the floor console makes it easier to apply and release parking brake, the Brake Auto Hold keeps the vehicle stationary even if the brake pedal is released when stopping at a traffic light.

The large 8-inch touch screen Smartphone Link Display Audio (SDA) intuitively operates music playback and calls with voice actions for a more enjoyable and safer drive. The SDA also includes, built-in multifunctional memory navigation, PHEV information about Energy Monitor, Energy Flow and Trip information, Multi Around Monitor views from cameras mounted on the front, rear and sides of the vehicle (including a bird’s-eye view) and Apple CarPlay[1] which allows for iPhone connection to SDA to easily operate maps, music, calls, messages and more through Siri.

Mitsubishi Remote Control offers convenience, through the use of a smartphone to remotely control the charging timer, reschedule charging for late at night when electricity fees are low, monitor the remaining charge time and enabling immediate or timer activation of cabin cooling or heating.
