McLaren’s Le Mans comeback is being sold as more than a new race car. Alongside its 2027 Hypercar, the British marque is offering a rare way into endurance racing’s inner circle.

For most of us, getting close to an endurance racing team means watching from behind the pit wall. McLaren has other ideas. As the British marque prepares to return to the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2027, Project: Endurance puts a select group of customers at the heart of McLaren’s return to endurance racing.

At the heart of the programme is the track-only MCL-HY GTR. While the MCL-HY will spearhead McLaren’s return to Le Mans, its GTR sibling combines ownership with behind-the-scenes access to the team’s operations, giving clients a rare glimpse of the pressure and adrenaline that come with competing at the highest level.

The timing is no coincidence. With the Hypercar class now motorsport’s hottest ticket, manufacturers are increasingly looking to bring customers along for the ride. “Taking the McLaren name back to the pinnacle of sportscar racing is a huge milestone. We are in a golden era of sportscar racing and the Hypercar category continues to be extremely successful, and our new car name shows respect to that,” said James Barclay, Executive Director of McLaren Endurance Racing. For the lucky few invited in, the biggest prize might not be the car itself, but a place behind the garage doors. ✤
