The General Manager of Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas, Qatar, talks lessons learned and passions pursued.

You have almost 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry – from waiter-apprentice to General Manager. What first attracted you to this sector?
When I first started my career as a waiter-apprentice, I was immediately drawn to the fast-paced nature of the hospitality industry and the opportunity to make a real difference in people’s experiences. I enjoy the sense of fulfillment that comes from providing exceptional service and creating memorable moments for guests.
Over time, I realised that the diversity and global scope of the industry offered endless opportunities for personal and professional growth. The chance to work in various countries and cultures, each with its unique challenges and rewards, made this sector feel like the perfect fit for me.

What would you say are the three most important lessons or pieces of advice you have learned or received over your long career?
Firstly, I’ve learned the importance of adaptability. The hospitality industry is ever-evolving, and being able to pivot and respond to change is key to staying ahead.
Secondly, building a strong team is essential. Leadership is not just about giving direction but also about empowering people, supporting their growth and fostering a culture of collaboration.
Lastly, always remain guest-centric. The foundation of our industry is providing exceptional service, and everything we do should be focused on enhancing the guest experience.

You have spent the majority of your career with Hilton Hotels. What is it about the brand that has kept you loyal and allowed you to progress within the company?
Hilton has always felt like home for me. The brand’s commitment to quality, innovation and guest satisfaction aligns with my own values and vision for hospitality. Throughout my career, I’ve been supported in my growth by Hilton’s strong focus on leadership development and its global presence, which has given me the opportunity to work across continents and cultures. Hilton’s emphasis on creating an inclusive and empowering work environment has been fundamental in fostering my growth. That, combined with the company’s strong ethical values and forwardthinking approach, has made it an ideal place for me to continue my journey. I am a true believer in Conrad Hilton’s vision to ‘Fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality’.

What makes Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas stand out from the competition – what are you most proud of about the property?
Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas is truly a destination within a destination. What sets us apart is the scale and variety of experiences we offer. From our 3.5-kilometre private beach to 361 unique accommodations that suit every type of guest, the resort is designed to cater to families, couples and groups alike. Guests can choose from well-appointed rooms and suites, charming Arabian-style townhouses and apartments, or luxurious beachfront villas with private pools.
We also offer an incredible mix of leisure and recreation. The award-winning eforea Spa provides a peaceful retreat for those looking to relax and unwind. For adventure seekers and families, Desert Falls Water & Adventure Park is a major highlight and one of the largest attractions of its kind in the region. Our sports academy and fitness facilities allow guests to stay active and make the most of their time with us.
Another key highlight is our diverse culinary offering. With over 10 restaurants spread across the resort and Desert Falls, along with additional food kiosks, guests are truly spoilt for choice. From Italian and Asian flavours to local and international favourites, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Dining with us becomes part of the experience, whether it’s a casual family meal or a more refined evening out.
But what I’m most proud of is the team. The genuine warmth, dedication and passion they bring to work every day are what truly make a difference. They go above and beyond to create memorable experiences for our guests. I often hear feedback about how our team members made someone’s stay extra special and that, to me, is the greatest achievement.
At Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas, we’re not just offering a place to stay. We’re creating moments that guests will remember long after they leave. That’s what makes us stand out.

On a more personal note, can you share a secret talent or bucket list ambition that our readers would be surprised to know about you?
People who know me well know that I’m a huge sports fan, especially when it comes to football and rugby. I love both playing and watching them but I’ve also been actively involved in youth sports development in the destinations I’ve previously lived in; particularly Riyadh and Dubai.
I’ve always found it incredibly rewarding to see young kids grow and develop not only in their athletic abilities but also in their maturity, sense of responsibility and character. Through sport, they learn to respect the values and ethics of their teams and clubs; gaining invaluable lessons in teamwork and discipline.
One of my ambitions is to host regular youth sports tournaments and family days at our resort, which is perfectly suited for such events. Our sports facilities, combined with the wide range of leisure amenities available for both kids and families, make it an ideal setting.
As for my personal bucket list, one of my goals is to visit as many countries across all continents as possible and experience a wide variety of local cuisines. I believe food is a powerful gateway to understanding different cultures, and it’s something I’m deeply passionate about. That should keep me busy for many years to come! ✤
