The Multi-Property General Manager of Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme, Agora Autograph Collection and the coming Palais Vendôme, Doha, a Luxury Collection Hotel, talks gratitude and a big ambition.
You began your hospitality career as a chef, what made you decide to transfer into hotel management and how did you go about making that move?
I spent many years behind the kitchen counters and those times were filled with what seems to me like millions of magnificent experiences and memories. The most important transformations in my journey have come through mentorships and love. I have been very fortunate to have had, and continue to have, mentors that brought forward opportunities I did not dream of. These mentors also generously set the path for me. When new opportunities present themselves, it is in my nature to capture them. Part of that comes from my hardworking parents, who did everything they could to create an extraordinary life through travel and great family meals. The decision to transfer to hotel management came through a journey of love and support. I am deeply grateful for all these wonderful people in my life.
You have worked across Europe, China and the Middle East. What do you find unique about Qatar?
I love the uniqueness of all the countries I have had the privilege to reside and work in. Qatar is a great nation because it values its citizens, culture and its nation. It is also very safe. I am grateful to have the opportunity to be a part of Qatar’s great development. Culture and safety are the bedrock of any successful nation. I am proud to play a very small role in that.
What are your future plans for Le Royal Méridien and what can you tell us about the coming Palais Vendôme, Doha, a Luxury Collection Hotel?
Le Royal Méridien Place Vendôme is well on its way in a journey to be positioned as ‘The Very Best of The Very Best’ of Qatar’s five-star hotels. With the hotel’s beauty combined with the memorable stories created by our team of exquisite associates, we aim to bring the world to Lusail to ‘Savour the Good Life’.
Palais Vendôme, A Luxury Collection Hotel will open in the future as a seven-star property. This matches exquisitely with Place Vendôme Qatar a true seven-star shopping and experience destination.
On a more personal note, of the many places you have been involved in hospitality, which is your favorite and why?
First of all, I love the friendliness of the people of Qatar. Every location and country I have lived and worked in has been a wonderful journey and each has a special place in my heart. Every day I savour the magnificence and beauty of the iconic Place Vendôme Qatar, Le Royal Méridien and Lusail. With Marriott International, I have had the privilege to lead three Ritz-Carlton hotels in three different countries, a St. Regis and now Le Royal Méridien. Each has become an inseparable part of who I am.
What three things would you tell visitors to Qatar they must see?
Qatar Museum of Islamic Art; the changing of the guards on camel-back at the Amiri Diwan; and the street food cars in Lusail. ✤
