The new General Manager of Delta Hotels by Marriott City Center Doha talks property enhancements and work-life balance.
Congratulations on your new position. What was it about the hospitality industry that first attracted you and, after 25 years, is that attraction still strong?
The hospitality industry is attractive because it offers me and other hoteliers the chance to create unforgettable experiences, by building a professional relationship with travellers from all over the planet – these guests sometimes become friends. The vibrant environment in hospitality always keeps me feeling excited by my job. I Love what I Do!
Why did you decide to join Delta and what are your plans for the property?
Delta Hotels’ commitment to simplicity and elegance aligns perfectly with my vision for hospitality. I was drawn to Delta by its reputation for providing a seamless guest experience, where every detail is thoughtfully curated to enhance comfort and convenience. For the property, I plan to further elevate our service standards, focussing on personalised experiences that exceed guest expectations. This includes enhancing and refreshing our accommodations and introducing new leisure amenities.
Can guests and visitors expect any new developments at Delta over the coming months – for example new restaurants/ menus, room or leisure upgrades?
The changes can already be seen; from the minute you step into the hotel entrance up to the 32nd floor. We have already worked on and finalised various different projects, we elevated our feel and look, we have rebranded two restaurants and there are more projects in the pipeline, all geared toward increasing both comfort and functionality. We’re excited about these developments and can’t wait to share them with our guests soon!
You’ve previously mentioned the challenges faced as a working mum, how do you combine your professional and personal lives given the famously difficult work-life balance aspect of the hospitality industry?
It is a challenge to balance my demanding career in hospitality with family life, but it is a challenge that I embrace with open arms. It is in setting clear priorities and open lines of communication with the team and family and the practice of mindfulness that I have found success in balancing the two. I also try to set an example with my team, showing them that balance can be achieved and success in professional and personal spheres is possible.
Can you tell us three things on your bucket list?
My ambition is to grow within the reputable Marriott International brand and rise to the esteemed position of Market Vice President. By leveraging my skills and experiences, I aim to make impactful contributions to the company’s growth while serving as a role model for aspiring female leaders.
One of the most cherished moments on my bucket list was witnessing the proud culmination of my children’s educational journey as they graduated from university. This milestone represents not only their hard work and dedication but also the fulfilment of my commitment to nurturing their growth and success.
As I advance in my career and personal development, I aspire to explore diverse cities and cultures across the globe. Whether for business or leisure, each destination offers invaluable opportunities for learning and self-discovery, enriching my perspective as a hotelier, leader and individual. ✤
