The newly appointed Hotel Manager at The Westin Doha Hotel & Spa talks enhancing guest experiences and ‘must visit’ Qatar highlights.

Congratulations on your appointment as Hotel Manager. You started your career in entry-level positions and have gained experience across various hotel departments, from front office and F&B to revenue, sales and marketing. What first attracted you to the hospitality industry and which area have you enjoyed most?
Thank you very much! My journey in the hospitality industry began with a passion for service and the desire to create memorable experiences for others. Starting in various departments gave me a deep understanding of the intricacies of hotel operations and I’m grateful for those early experiences. While I’ve enjoyed every aspect of hospitality, I find working in guest relations and sales and marketing particularly rewarding. Seeing guests leave with positive memories of their stay is something truly special.

What are your plans for your new role, any upcoming changes or developments you can share with us?
In my new role, my focus will be on enhancing the guest experience and continuing to develop The Westin Doha as a destination of choice. We’re exploring new initiatives to further elevate our services, including new wellness offerings and expanding our dining options. We also aim to continue supporting and developing our team members, ensuring they’re equipped to provide the best possible experience to our guests.

Much of your career has been spent with Marriott properties. What is it about this parent company that has won your loyalty?
Marriott’s commitment to excellence, its global standards and its emphasis on providing exceptional guest service have been key factors in my loyalty. The company’s values align closely with my own and the opportunities for professional growth within Marriott are unparalleled. I’ve learned a great deal from the leadership and mentorship that Marriott fosters and I’m proud to be part of such a respected brand.

You are part of Qatar Marriott Business Council; can you tell us about the organisation and your role in it?
The Qatar Marriott Business Council is a network of Marriott hotels in the region that collaborate on various initiatives, from business development to community outreach. My role involves working closely with other Marriott sales leaders in Qatar to promote collaboration and enhance the hospitality experience. We also focus on supporting local causes and contributing to the community. Being part of the council allows me to share insights, learn from peers and help Marriott properties in Qatar thrive.

Outside of work, you are a longtime Doha resident. What are three things you would tell visitors to the country they must see or do?
As a long-time resident, I love to share the beauty of Doha with visitors. First, I would recommend a visit to the Museum of Islamic Art, which is an architectural marvel and offers a rich cultural experience. Second, exploring the vibrant Souq Waqif is a must, as it offers a unique blend of traditional markets, art and cuisine. For a more natural experience, a trip to the Sealine Beach is perfect for those who want to enjoy the desert landscapes and serene coastline. Lastly, I would suggest spending time along the Doha Corniche to enjoy the stunning skyline views and relax by the water or visit the mangroves for a peaceful escape into nature. ✤
