Genesis Magma Racing is taking its endurance ambitions beyond the circuit, launching an esports team designed to introduce the GMR-001 Hypercar to a broader audience.

Genesis Magma Racing is making room for a second grid. As the Korean manufacturer gears up for its FIA World Endurance Championship campaign, it’s also stepping into sim racing with the launch of GMR Esports, an official team that will compete on Le Mans Ultimate, the championship’s official game.

Rather than treating esports as a side project, Genesis is using it to support its wider endurance racing programme. The seven-driver squad will race virtual versions of the GMR-001 Hypercar in official esports events supporting the FIA World Endurance Championship, mirroring the team’s on-track identity while helping introduce the brand to a broader audience. The roster brings together established sim racers from Europe and South Korea, blending virtual racing expertise with real-world track experience. Former Formula Sim Racing World Champion Collin Spork will lead the programme, combining competition duties with a technical development role.

For Cyril Abiteboul, Team Principal of Genesis Magma Racing, the virtual programme has a role to play beyond the screen. “The creation of GMR Esports brings the team, the GMR-001 Hypercar and the Genesis brand to a wider audience and the success of our drivers in online competition will complement the work of the race team on track.” It’s a sign that for manufacturers chasing new fans, the next battleground isn’t just the circuit, it’s the simulator too. ✤
