Ever wondered how the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy gets from one place to another? Well, we have the answer.

Thanks to a partnership spanning four tournaments, the World Cup Trophy travels in style with its own official trunk made by the master artisans at Louis Vuitton. And, for this year’s edition, the brand has launched a special capsule collection.

Unveiled at the opening match, the custom-made travel case was specially crafted at Louis Vuitton’s Asnières workshop. It’s covered in a beautiful, lightweight yet hardwearing, laserengraved monogrammed titanium, a material that has been used in the maison’s menswear collection. Protected at each of the eight corners with natural leather, the trunk is fitted with a lock and six clasps made from ruthenium, a strong dark-grey metal.

The case was meticulously designed to protect and transport the 6.175-kilogram, 18-carat gold and malachite FIFA World Cup Trophy.

Since its foundation in 1854, Louis Vuitton has crafted many custom-made travel objects, from a foldout trunk-bed for 19thcentury explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza to a portable teaservice trunk for the Maharajah of Baroda.

Since 2010, Louis Vuitton has provided the travel trunk for one of the world’s most sought-after, legendary trophies. Over the years following, Louis Vuitton’s relationship with the FIFA World Cup has grown, unveiling a new leather goods collection launched for the 2018 edition of the sporting tournament.

And this year, once again, Louis Vuitton unveiled an exclusive capsule collection specially designed for the 22nd edition of the event. Five collectible pieces in black Taurillon leather channel the game’s energy by revisiting one of the maison’s most emblematic signatures, the Damier motif, embossed to recall the movement of the net as a goal is scored.

The range captures the excitement of football in sophisticated shapes, sporty treatments and discreetly elegant details. Timeless icons such as the Keepall 50 and City Keepall bags, as well as the Discovery backpack return, offering ample central compartments, practical inner pockets that keep essentials to hand and adjustable straps accented with black metallic hardware; on Keepall styles, shoulder straps are removable. The Keepall 50 also features five protective bottom studs shaped like football [boot] cleats. Small leather goods include a dopp kit and a handy pocket organiser.
