FASHION IN THE CITIES

WITH HIS TURKISH AIRLINES TICKET IN ONE HAND AND A TROVE FULL OF TRENDY OUTFITS IN THE OTHER, ABDULLA WAS READY TO TAKE MEN’S FASHION WEEK ON WITH HIS NEVERFAILING FLAIR. TAKING US ALONG WITH HIM ON THIS JOURNEY OF STYLE THROUGH THE WORLD’S TOP FASHION CAPITALS, FACT TAKES A FRONT ROW SEAT WITH ABDULLA AL ABDULLA AT THE TOP MEN’S FASHION WEEK SHOWS.

When embarking on such an exciting and eventful trip, it is important to have the smoothest transition possible. Turkish Airlines understands that and caters to the needs of the modern-day traveler. You do not become the world’s largest carrier with countless destinations all over the globe without good reason, right? Turkish Airlines’ reputation precedes it, and with the recent opening of their new airport, I was eager to experience a ‘Turkish Tatil’ and it was nothing short of delightful. From its exceptional size to the five-star amenities, I was pleasantly surprised. My jet-set lifestyle has exposed me to a fair share of airport lounges, and this particular one had delicious freshly prepared food served in a spacious comfortable environment. The airport transformed the typically dreaded transit into a smooth and memorable experience. The ease and comfort of the flight added to my excitement. The on-board services left little to be desired and provided precisely the relaxation I needed, while heading into the hectic schedule that was to follow…

MILAN
Kicking off the fashion festivities, it is only natural to begin at one of the top fashion capitals of the world: Milan, Italy. Settling in the upscale hipster area of Brera, I was ready to take on the shows. From Fendi to Zegna, and Phillip Plein, to name a few, surrounded by stunning style and inspiring people from the fashion industry is really what fashion week is all about. It is also about fun and unique experiences such as the Fendi show which was set in a park, serving breakfast in picnic baskets, and even going so far as to having a stylised Fendi playground set up for nearby children to enjoy.

Featuring their world-renowned exceptional bags and accessories, the show was truly one to remember. The Milan experience also came with a range of stunning fashion presentations from respected brands such as Santoni and Brunello Cuchinelli. Set in beautiful locations and featuring new collections that are beyond tempting. It does not hurt when they come with a side of amazing experiences such as watching the sunset from the Prada foundation! However, the Milan experience is not complete without food! The trip would not be the same without a visit to what I deem to be the best pizza in the world; a bold statement, but one that is sure to be confirmed by a quick visit to La Specialita. The perfect pizza is matched only by the perfect gelato, and when in Milan, a scoop or two (or three!) of Marchesi’s gelato is simply a must!

PARIS
Having lived in Paris before, my love for the city comes naturally. It is like a second home. Nothing comes close to the feeling of getting lost in the streets of Paris. Its beauty and charm are undeniable; it is the city of love for a reason after all. From eating at my favourite seafood restaurant, Giraffe, with a direct view of the Eiffel Tower, to aimlessly wandering the quaint streets, Paris never fails to fill your heart (and stomach for that matter – I strongly recommend the Pesto Pistachio Pasta at Loulou’s). Milan may have been a tough act to follow, but Paris rose to the challenge with some fabulous shows. Dior, Acne, Kenzo, Balmain, Berlutti, Amiri, Hermes, the list goes on! Each with their own uniquely riveting shows. The Hermes experience came complete with an entire auction themed setup featuring some beautiful silk prints and Hermes’ always-beautiful accessories.

LONDON
To round off what already felt like the perfect journey, Abdulla had one final stop: London. The Balmain event at Selfridges in London was the perfect end to an incredible few days. Showcasing their unique new collection of sneakers featuring eccentric graffiti designs, Balmain put on quite the show. The event even included the opportunity to get your sneakers personalised with graffiti spray! The edgy and exciting showcase truly captured the vibe of London. A visit to the English capital definitely calls for a trip to the infamous Zuma to devour my personal favourite; Wagyu Beef Tartare with Black Truffle, “unreal” is the precise word I’d use to describe it, and to truly capture this entire experience.

My love for fashion and natural eye for it was not lost at the countless impressive shows. Hopping from one inspiring city to the next, enjoying delectable food and fabulous company, observing beautiful designs at countless shows: it was a journey to remember, and I’m glad you got to hop on board for it! ✤

TOP TWO TIPS: HOW TO TAKE ON FASHION WEEK

1) Skin in Check
Going to such prominent shows, meeting influential people, you naturally want to look your best. Keeping your skin in perfect shape is key to this! A visit to Dr Kate in London for a refreshing Cryofacial definitely did the trick for Abdulla.

2) Feeling Fit
Looking your best is important, but so is feeling it! You can eat as many pizzas as you’d like in Milan (in fact, we expect you to) but the last thing you want to feel during such an exciting and busy time is groggy or out of shape. Sticking to your fitness regime despite the location is a hard task to master, but one that Abdulla manages with finesse. Finding ways to work out wherever he was, Abdulla especially enjoyed booking a personal trainer through One Trainer in Paris. Lior Reihanian’s commitment and determination definitely helped keep Abdulla on track. The right kit was needed though; it is fashion week after all! Abdulla made sure to pack his favourite workout gear from Salam Stores.
