DESIGN IN FOCUS

Design Miami has launched a new partnership in Qatar with Msheireb Properties and an exhibition is scheduled to take place next spring at Doha Design District.

Design Miami, which was launched in 2005 and has since become the global authority for collectible design, has launched a new partnership in Doha with Msheireb Properties. The Gulf’s first Design Miami/Podium exhibition will be held next spring at Doha Design District, a space that is planned to be home to international design and art galleries, showrooms, creative services, innovative stores, and restaurants, creating an elevated, dynamic experience for Qatari residents and visitors.

For over 15 years, Design Miami has been focused on the elevation and celebration of design in the way it is bought, sold, understood and discussed within the wider cultural landscape. Putting forward the narrative that design is as collection-worthy as art, Design Miami features 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting and objects of art from the prestigious, expertly vetted galleries of the world, including Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Galerie Mitterrand, Priveekollektie Contemporary Art | Design, Etage Projects and Friedman Benda.

The collaboration seeks to ‘define Doha as a new global design hub’, Design Miami said in a statement. “As Design Miami continues to grow globally, we welcome this partnership with Msheireb Properties and look forward to bringing our vision to Doha. Qatar’s capital has grown immensely and is an emerging destination for art and design,” said Jennifer Roberts, Design Miami’s Chief Executive.

The Doha partnership is part of the fair’s Podium programme of pop-up selling exhibitions bringing together collectible design from galleries and independent design studios.

Curated by incoming Curatorial Director, Wava Carpenter, this year, Design Miami will take place from December 1 to 5 and will explore themes of an interconnected humanity, the show will offer design lovers the option to explore and shop the in-person fair digitally as well. Whilst details on its 2022 Doha edition are yet to be revealed, the announcement instils further confidence in Qatar’s glittering design future.

The partnership coincides with the announcement of the second edition of Design Miami/Podium in Shanghai that will take place in November. ✤
