When one of your favourite steakhouses launches a new set menu, curiosity tends to win. SD headed to Bentley’s Grill at Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha to put the new Chateaubriand Set Menu for Two to the test.

Bentley’s Grill is one of those gems that only true connoisseurs in Doha know. We’re regulars here, naturally, so a return visit is never surprising. We head out to Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha on a Thursday night, and the atmosphere hits that rare, sweet spot, lively enough to feel like something’s happening, but restrained enough to stay elegant, intimate and far from the usual crowded chaos of Doha’s busier weekend spots.

What we love about Bentley’s Grill (and Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha in general) is the staff seem to really love the place. Most of them have been there for decades, and they’re present and smiling every time you visit. They always remember you by name and it’s such a special, underrated experience when the staff are so joyful.

A Steakhouse Frozen in Time

The interiors are classic, sophisticated and evoke luxury in every sense. Classic, mid-century-style chandeliers cast warm light across the dining space, making the atmosphere rather romantic or intimate. The dark mahogany woods wrap the space making it feel like a sophisticated cross between an old-world library and a masculine steakhouse. There’s a lovely cinematic feeling that surrounds the space.

A back-lit gallery wall with framed artworks keeps our eyes busy, as we await our first course. The Chateaubriand Set Menu for Two is an incredible offer – two portions of an appetiser, 600g of tenderloin cooked to your liking and dessert – for just QR580. And we can’t possibly refuse this offer.

They start us off with an amuse bouche – a slice of smoked salmon drizzled with honey mustard and seaweed – a nice marriage of sweet and salty flavours and just what we need to whet our appetites.

A welcome drink makes an appearance and a rather exciting selection of butter and bread tags along. The flavours are unique: a feta cheese butter, a lemon and parsley butter that’s lightly zesty and wonderfully herby and finally, our absolute favourite, a roasted bell pepper butter. We’re so engrossed in breaking down every scent in this brilliant butter showcase and almost don’t notice our appetiser arriving.

Love at First Bite

A very aesthetic Prawns Mango Avocado Cocktail is perfectly presented – love at first sight, we’d say, until we taste it. Then it’s love at first bite. And as cheesy as that sounds, you’ll find nothing to fault in this preparation. The freshness from the mango and avocado complements the prawns, and everything is held together by a light but delicious cocktail sauce.

Outside the Chateaubriand Set Menu, but an absolute must-have on every visit of ours here, we get ready for some bone marrow carved tableside. Is it really carved when it slides off the bone like a dollop of hot butter? Crispy pieces of bread hold the marrow, and we generously top it up with the chimichurri served alongside. This bone marrow has never disappointed to date and we can proudly report back on another hat-trick.

The main event is 600 grams of tenderloin. Not to sound morbid but if we were asked for a final meal on death row, it would be this. Succulent meat cooked to medium-rare perfection and not surprisingly, it needs absolutely no extra seasoning. That’s not to say we’re not going to pour some green peppercorn or mushroom sauce over it – anything we add is only going to enhance flavour here. Six hundred grams is a lot. Who cares about dessert at this point? Our mission is clear. Demolish that steak. It’s not that hard when our knives slide right through. This is a superior dining experience – the kind that makes you thankful for everything. Thankful to be seated in a stunning steakhouse eating some of the city’s most incredible meat dishes.

One Gram Too Far

Right now, 601 grams is out of the question. We’ve eliminated the steak and dessert is calling, but we’ve never been more unsure of ourselves. There’s no way we can consume even a single gram more. Fine, bring in dessert.

It’s a properly pretty classic cheesecake with a berry compote and ice cream on the side. Very indulgent. Very hard to finish. We’re currently looking at local delivery apps for adult strollers that can be delivered in 20 minutes. Spoiler – they don’t exist. We’ll have to walk out, on our legs, taking steps all the way to the parking lot. This can be classified as a trek. But is it worth it? Absolutely.

Bentley’s Grill is a great night out – excellent steak, service that feels like home, sophisticated setting and an overall unforgettable experience.
