Residents and visitors have the chance to see one of the world’s largest congregations of whale sharks thanks to a new partnership between Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara and Discover Qatar.

Guests will be taken on a newly launched excursion which will allow them a glimpse of the biggest fish in the ocean. Cooler waters off the north-east coast of Qatar from April to September provide the ideal location to see the whale sharks as they gather to feed close to the surface of the water. The fish can be viewed for two hours from the front and back deck of the catamaran.

Visitors will be accompanied by a whale shark expert who will present an interactive lecture about the creatures, as well as a photographer who will capture guests’ experiences on camera. Visitors will also be served a continental breakfast and sandwich buffet lunch along with other snacks and hot and cold drinks. The resort’s catamarans are spacious and comfortable and are equipped with TVs and WiFi for guests to enjoy.

The new excursions depart five times a week from Al Ruwais Port in the north of Qatar and can be booked online.

Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara has also announced the reopening of its famous surf pool after its renovation, once again expanding its wide selection of watersports activities. Those wanting to visit the resort can now enjoy two wide surfing lanes simulating ocean waves, with every session conducted under strict supervision with a trained team member to ensure the highest level of safety.

Private surfing lessons are available and the lanes may be booked exclusively for friends and family. The surf pool is open from 10am until 10pm and advanced booking is required.
