Travellers are in for pleasant surprise at Hamad International Airport, which has transformed into an artistic space with impressive works by world-renowned artists. The award-winning Hamad International Airport (HIA) and Qatar Museums present Discover the Art of the Airport. A unique walking tour, it offers an immersive experience, with impressive sculptures and art installations by leading artists from around the world. The hour-long, guided tour costs USD10 per person. Travellers are recommended to have at least two hours of transit time at the airport and arrive at the Discover Qatar desk 30 minutes before their scheduled tour.

This is an initiative under the patronage of Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums. The artworks have been curated by the Public Art Department at Qatar Museums and are sparking dialogue and public interaction, while also adding character and personality to HIA’s open spaces.

Some permanent installations at HIA include Other Worlds, by American artist Tom Otterness; Small Lie, by American artist KAWS; Cosmos, by French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel; A Message of Peace to the World, by Iraqi artist Ahmed Al Bahrani; and Lamp Bear, by Swiss artist Urs Fischer. Art transcends all barriers, inspiring dialogue in a universal language. It connects people from different parts of the world, turning travel into an exciting experience. Qatar has become one of the first Gulf countries to establish a comprehensive contemporary public art programme, spearheaded by Qatar Museums, with the goal of making art a part of everyday life. ✤
