APP-LICIOUS

What’s on the smartphone agenda for September?

Headspace

Headspace is a popular meditation and sleep app designed to encourage a healthier lifestyle and relationship with yourself, with loads of helpful breathing and mindfulness exercises. The app is divided into five sections, namely Meditate, Sleep, Move, Focus and Wake Up. Meditation offers courses and single sessions that help users manage their feelings and thoughts to develop long-term healthy mindfulness habits. Sleep offers sleepcasts, sleep music and nighttime SOS in case you can’t get any shuteye. Move helps you train your body and mind and strengthen your overall well-being. Focus offers short audios to help you boost your ability to concentrate. And lastly, Wake Up has inspiring daily stories and mini meditations to help you get a good start to your day. You can also choose between shorter three-minute sessions going up to longer 15- and 20-minute sessions. A monthly subscription costs $12.99 with a seven-day free trial and an annual subscription costs $69.99 with a 14-day free trial.

CARROT Weather

Are you bored of the installed weather apps on your phone? Want to make checking the weather a bit more enjoyable, and maybe have a bit of a giggle? Then download CARROT Weather. Not only does it give you accurate weather forecasts and alerts you if more severe weather is coming your way, it also has quite hilarious dialogue and quirky animations, and you can even customise your character to your liking. You’ll get messages like “I know what you did last summer. And it wasn’t terribly exciting” and “There’s a 73% chance that the ice cream truck driver is a serial killer, but it’s probably worth the risk.” You can also choose your own layouts and data points. The app also has a feature called Secret Locations, which are hidden world sites that you have to find using clues. The more you travel around the world and visit specific locations and experience different weather events, the more achievements you will be able to bag!
