AMS discovered great food, friendly service and the perfect outdoor setting on a visit to Sky View at La Cigale Hotel.
I think we can all agree the weather is perfect right now in Doha and what better way to enjoy it than with a little al fresco rooftop dining. It had been quite some time since we last visited La Cigale, one of Doha’s most iconic hotels, so we were excited to have the chance to return.
On arrival to the 11th floor, we were led from the reception room into the first large, open space. Since it was night, the skyline was visible through the windows, offering wide uninterrupted views.
The larger section of Sky View is very contemporary, arranged across two levels and divided by sculptural wood panelling that adds definition to the space. It was filled with high tables and chairs and served as an entertainment venue. Sliding doors led out to an open terrace that lent itself more readily to dining. There was also a large screen that played the latest matches and sports.
We were welcomed warmly by restaurant manager Mikhail and his team. The music was perfectly pitched, setting the mood while still allowing conversation to flow easily: something that not all restaurants have mastered. We thoroughly appreciated being able to talk and immediately relaxed in the soft glow of our table lamp. The service from all of the staff was polished and attentive, without feeling overwhelming.



Opening Dishes
We began with the salads, which were more considered than expected. The chicken Caesar combined crisp baby gem with warm, pan-seared chicken breast, a creamy dressing that was well balanced, and parmesan that added depth rather than dominance. Croutons brought texture, making it a dish that felt complete and satisfying. The Sky View signature salad was richer, with tender shrimp and soft egg layered through fresh leaves and brought together by a smooth, creamy dressing. It was comforting without being heavy and well judged as a starter.
Hot Appetisers
The hot appetisers added warmth and generosity. Chicken skewers arrived lightly charred and full of flavour, the meat tender and well seasoned, paired with cool tzatziki that refreshed each bite. The beef sliders were rich and satisfying, the patties juicy and neatly contained in soft buns, with steak-cut fries that were crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The beef empanadas were golden and crisp, breaking open to a savoury filling that felt familiar and comforting, and ideal for sharing.



A Pause in the Evening
Before the mains arrived, we took a moment to absorb the wider atmosphere. Around us, diners talked easily, some standing to take selfies against the skyline, others following the match on the screen or simply focussing on their plates. The atmosphere felt lively and social while still allowing diners to savour their meals.
Main Courses
The main courses arrived well timed, and by this point we were already full, yet still unwilling to slow down. The Aberdeen Angus steak came first and immediately raised the bar. The sear was spot on, locking in succulence and flavour, and the quality of the meat spoke for itself. It was exceptional, the kind of steak that makes you ignore fullness entirely, and we came back again and again. The salmon pavé followed and held its own, falling apart easily under the fork, flaky and indulgent, with a clean richness that was satisfying without being heavy.

Desserts
Even though we could hardly eat another bite, we somehow found a little room to enjoy the sweet treats. The chocolate fondant arrived warm and soft, giving way to a flowing centre that was rich without being overwhelming. The ice cream truffle offered a lighter finish, cold and creamy ice cream rolled in pistachio and finished with caramel: simple and well balanced.
Final Thoughts
Sky View struck that careful balance between setting, service and food. The views and atmosphere drew us in, but it was the consistency of the experience that made an impression on us. Mikhail and his team provided seamless service and were impeccably friendly throughout. If you have not had the chance to visit, now is the perfect time to try it for yourself.
