ALL IN THE DETAILS

FACT’s Anzish Mirza embarks on a journey of flavours at the newly opened, but already famous, Reberu.

The city of Doha has been buzzing ever since Reberu graced the district of Msheireb and our palates with its tantalising, unique menu and aromatic flavours. It’s rare to find something new in Doha in terms of food, mostly because we have everything — well now we do.

This modern and iconic take on fine dining leaves guests with an enduring impression set amidst an evolving cinematic schema that beautifully synchronises the art and science of fashionable gastronomy. And Reberu, far from being a franchise, takes pride in being unique in location, décor, and food; a local gem from all angles. Set under contemporary hanging light that bounces off textured walls, this restaurant brings us a menu encompassing Japanese, Peruvian and European contemporary cuisine. It puts you in the hands of the chef, who crafts exceptionally craveable, mouth-watering bites with a twist in flavour in every item.

We take our table on the paved pathway outside the restaurant amidst the iconic Msheireb buildings. You’ll forget you’re in Doha as you embrace the metropolitan ambience. Everything is ontrend, if we do say so ourselves, from the marble table-tops, and metallic light to the wooden plate setting. Our host takes our order, but we leave the drinks up to him, and he delivers. Judging by our personalities and picks from the menu, our host deciphers our taste preferences and leaves us sipping until the very last drop — he is truly a magician in his form bringing us a Raspberry Saketini and a Paradaisu (all drinks are nonenhanced). The Raspberry Saketini is a strong and exotic blend of raspberry and coconut syrup, while the Paradaisu is a fusion of lychee, strawberry, mint, and butterfly pea syrup, bringing us a delicious and peculiarly refreshing flavour.

We know this culinary journey is bound to be exquisite as the table is adorned with our starters; the Crunchy Crab Tower and the Beef Ribs Gayoza. The crab tower is a decadent display of crab flakes, tobiko, sesame oil, and a refreshing in-house dressing that brings the dish to life. The gayoza however is already famous, and for good reason. These little dumplings may look small, but they are packed with juicy meaty flavours of tender Wagyu ribs, wrapped in beetroot skin, and garnished with absolute deliciousness — we call it ‘love at first bite’.

Before we head on to our mains, we also indulge in the L.A Rainbow Roll, a spicy maki encompassing strong flavours that blend for the perfect explosion of savoury zest and infusions of seafood bliss. Diving deeper into the menu, we take on the tender, juicy Lamb Chops, glazed with a quirky crunchy pistachio crust and char su, with a side of beef jus. Each cut and bite is followed by an audible “ahhh,” at the table, a sure sign of satisfaction. We also order the creamiest Ricotta & Spinach Ravioli, a simple dish but truly a bite of heaven, with the secret ingredient for the filling— you’ll need to make a reservation to find out. We end this gastronomical journey with the Reberu Honey Cake.

This little tower of sinful caramel and, hazelnut-azella, chocolate mousse, and a honey sponge is all encased in a crunchy toffeelike exterior. If the flavours aren’t enough to convince you, then the textures of this dessert should. From intimate ambiance to indulgent cuisine, Reberu is a mustdine for everyone, with a trendy environment, unique dishes, and a pristine location.

And be sure to reserve your table well in advance, as this dining destination is popping up to be one of the city’s most popular places. With its delicious menu with a wide array of choices — come for a drink, or a meal, but stay for the experience. ✤
