A SHRINE FOR SPORT

Fans of Lionel Messi are in for a treat, following the announcement that the player’s room during the FIFA World Cup will be transformed into a museum.

On the heels of Argentina’s victory in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 comes the decision to convert the room of sports icon and Argentina national football team captain, Lionel Messi, into a museum. A fitting tribute to the player who has been conferred the title of GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) by fans. This decision is being overseen by Qatar University, where the Argentinian team chose to stay instead of five-star hotels.

While we’re yet to learn about the exhibits of said museum, there’s no doubt that it will be a shrine for fans and lovers of sport, particularly football. It’s said that it will offer visitors an insight into the surroundings that Messi lived in during the FIFA World Cup, a tournament in which he led his team to victory. This is the third victory for Argentina; the previous two being in the years 1978 and 1986.

Since its inception in 1977, Qatar University continues to serve as the country’s primary institution of higher education and has become a beacon of academic and research excellence in the region. Hosting 11 colleges across various faculties, as well as state-ofthe-art research centres, and offering a wide range of academic programmes, Qatar University has earned the endorsement of numerous leading international accrediting bodies. Further it has three sports complexes, in addition to an indoor gym for women. These facilities host various sports including football, volleyball, handball, basketball, tennis, swimming, water polo, squash and others. ✤
