fact chatted to Raed Rabie, General Manager at InterContinental Doha The City, who was recently named on a regional GM Power List. He shared the inspirations that have driven his 30-year career and aspirations for the future.
“From the very beginning, I was drawn to hospitality because it brings together people, cultures and experiences in a way no other industry does,” says Raed, adding that he sees hotels as more than just buildings. “They’re places where life happens and memories are made.”
He was recently named as a regional industry leader, which he describes as “truly an honour”, saying his leadership style is centred around trust, transparency and ownership. “I believe that when you give people the right tools and the space to grow, they often exceed even their own expectations,” says the GM. “We focus on genuine empowerment, giving colleagues the confidence to make decisions that enhance the guest experience in real time. When colleagues feel empowered, the guest journey naturally rises to another level, and that is what defines a truly exceptional hotel.”
Located in the heart of West Bay, the hotel offers 349 spacious rooms, 176 residences, nine dining and social outlets and the award-winning Lamara Spa Boutique, creating a complete lifestyle destination for both travellers and residents. With panoramic city views and an atmosphere of refined comfort throughout, InterContinental Doha The City delivers an experience that feels both elevated and genuinely welcoming. However, Raed says: “What truly distinguishes us is our people, their passion for hosting and commitment to excellence bring the signature InterContinental experience to life every day.”

Asked his thoughts on the future of the country’s hospitality scene, Raed is optimistic, saying: “Qatar’s hospitality sector is entering an exciting new chapter. The momentum built in recent years continues to position the country as a world-class destination for major events, business travel and luxury tourism. I expect a stronger shift toward experiential hospitality, guests want culturally rich, immersive encounters that connect them to the destination, not just accommodation.
He adds that sustainability, wellness and personalised travel will remain key drivers, and Doha’s growing calendar of corporate, cultural and sporting events will keep strengthening the market. 2026 is also an exciting period for the property with InterContinental’s global signature programmes being brought to life in Doha, from Timeshifter, which supports travellers in adjusting seamlessly across time zones, to experiences shaped around the spirit of Incredible Occasions, where celebrations are elevated with thoughtful, personalised detail.
Guests can also expect refreshed menus across the dining portfolio and increased support for award-winning concepts such as the themed nights at The Square, the Afternoon Tea experience at La Parisienne Caffe and the nightlife offering at Hide.

Hospitality is well known as a demanding industry in which it can be difficult to maintain a decent work-life balance. Raed recognises this, explaining: “Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries, protecting personal well-being and making time to reset. I prioritise family and personal interests and I encourage my team to do the same. When we take care of ourselves, we lead better, think clearer and show up with the energy our guests and teams deserve.
“I enjoy discovering new restaurants, travelling and immersing myself in different cultures, it keeps me inspired, both personally and professionally. I also value quieter moments: time with family, reading and staying active. These habits help me recharge and return with a fresh perspective.”
And, he adds that after 29 years in the business, he still finds it exciting because the industry never stands still. “Guest expectations evolve, new trends and technologies reshape the journey and every day offers a fresh opportunity to create something meaningful for our guests and for our teams,” he says. ✤
Raed’s Three Qatar Must Tries
First, the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar; two remarkable cultural landmarks that tell the country’s story with real depth and imagination.
Second, a desert adventure to the Inland Sea, where the landscape is unlike anywhere else in the area.
Third, Souq Waqif, the living heartbeat of Doha, where tradition, flavours and craftsmanship come together in the most authentic way.
