A New Chapter Begins

The historic Gulf Cinema Complex is set to get a new lease of life as the result of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the Qatar Cinema and Film Distribution Company and Qatar Museums (QM).
Opened to the public in 1972, the Gulf Cinema Complex was the first movie theatre in Doha and quickly became a thriving cultural hub, attracting tourists and locals alike.
Now, it’ll get a 21st century makeover and become a veritable state-of-the-art entertainment facility.
It will feature a Cinematique Museum – the first in the country – along with studio spaces, a media/film library, a grand theatre plus food and beverage venues.

The Doha Film Institute will play a key role by bringing in expertise and programming while its film collections will be overseen by QM.
Importantly, the original heritage building’s grandeur will not be affected by the modern upgrades and its historical value shall remain undiminished.
The initiative highlights QM’s determination to preserve Qatar’s valuable cultural heritage even as adjustments are made to adapt to modern media and film industry requirements.
