A Journey Of Refinement

Want your kids to feel comfortable in any social situation? The St. Regis Doha has come up with The Etiquette Club, a unique programme that started as a one-off and has now been developed as an ongoing educational journey that helps youngsters develop a whole range of skills. We caught up with organiser and etiquette expert Emma Clark, to find out more.

So basically, what is the Etiquette Club?
The Etiquette Club is a uniquely crafted curriculum designed to enrich the lives of young students, aged four to 11 years, by equipping them with the essential skills of graceful communication, refined table manners and social confidence.
The young learners advance through Bronze, Silver, and Gold courses, culminating in a certification and award ceremony at The St. Regis Doha – an event celebrating their mastery of fine etiquette in a setting of timeless elegance. Each course is a two-and-a-half hour experience where they develop their skill set through engaging games and interactive lessons.
The Bronze course students begin their journey in a private cabana workshop, where they are introduced to the principles of poise, courtesy and international etiquette. They then transition to a real-world dining experience at Astor Grill, where they will put their newfound skills into practice, ordering from the Family Traditions menu, learning the nuances of table etiquette and perfecting the art of engaging conversations.
Further progression and development through the Silver and Gold courses allows the students to fully submerse themselves in a world of etiquette from experiences such as afternoon tea at the Fauchon café to making a guest’s bed in a suite to confidently being able to use chopsticks.
After completing all three courses, students will receive exclusive invitations to The Etiquette Club events, including activities such as sushi making, creative workshops and open-air cinema experiences to continue their development and build self-confidence.

What has been the reception so far?
So far, we have seen a lot of interest and excellent feedback from the children and parents. We have had nearly 50 students join since we started in November 2024.
In general, the students want to continue their etiquette journey further and the parents have all seen a significant change in their child’s behaviour and attitude both at home and in other environments.

What gave you the idea for this, how did you spot the need?
My background is training adults within the luxury hospitality sector on etiquette and service excellence. I have an eight-year-old daughter who I have always shared my knowledge and experiences with. When I was still living in France, I started to take small groups of my daughter’s friends and ran small, intimate etiquette sessions – this is when The Etiquette Club started!
On moving to Doha, I was passionate to bring The Etiquette Club to the children of Qatar. Knowing the impact it had in France, I knew that this would be appreciated by the parents here who want to offer their children a different, unique experience – essential life skills that will support them in their journey and a lifetime of distinction.
For over a century, St. Regis has been synonymous with sophistication and impeccable social grace, a legacy dating back to the legendary Caroline Astor, who defined the golden age of hospitality. The Etiquette Club reflects this legacy. The St Regis Doha saw the opportunity and supported the launch of the club in Doha. ✤
